The Director General, the colleagues of MOSCOW Ltd. firm and their foreign business partners have gathered to discuss the foreign business trip of our colleagues
Mr. Evdokimov:Hi. How’re you doing? Is everyone here?
Mr. Andreev:Galkina is absent.
Mr. Evdokimov:But, we must begin without her. Somebody
call her.
Everybody knows Mr. Volkov and our
partners from British firm have just arrived
from London. They’ ve come here to help us
to prepare our staff more carefully for the
business trip to London, because our people
will be working together with them at their
office for a few months.
Mr. Andreev:Sorry for my interrupting you, but I called
for Miss Galkina. I was told, that she had left long
ago.
Mr. Evdokimov:O.K. thanks. I hope she won’t make us wait too
long. I continue. Let me introduce our foreign
partners to you. Miss Lora Miller, from
London, she is the Sales Manager.
Miss Lora Miller:Nice to meet you. For you everybody, call me
Lora.
Mr. Evdokimov:And one beautiful representative from London
- Betty O’Henry.
Betty O’Henry:Nice to meet you. Call me Betty.
Mr. Evdokimov:O.K. dear ladies, now let me introduce you my
staff. You have already known our commercial
director Mr. Volkov. He had been working at
your firm for five months. I also want you to
meet Mr. Andreev, our representative in
Togliatti. He is the Sales Manager.
Lora and Betty:Glad to meet you, Mr Andreev.
Mr. Andreev:Call me Pavel.
Mr. Evdokimov:He is our Export-Import Manager Mr. Voronov
Sit down, please, Mr. Voronov. A cigarette?
Mr. Voronov:No. Thank you. Call me Oleg.
Mr. Evdokimov:Vladimir Smirnov is our lawyer from Kiev
Mr. Smirnov:Vladimir for everybody.
Mr. Evdokimov:And now tell me please, what do you think
about my idea of broadening your mind ?
Mr. Andreev:As for me, I think it’s great to learn new things
every day. It, of course, broadens your mind,
teaches you how to live and communicate with
people who are quite different from you.
Voronov:It is especially fine with me to get all
information about business abroad,
because it is very difficult for me to get used to
my new environment, and abroad it will be the
most difficult for me. That’s why I hope to get
some tips from our foreign colleagues.
Lora:Yes. You are absolutely right. Because good
advice is beyond price.
Miss Galkina:Hello! My god. I am so sorry I kept you
waiting. But I’ve got a valid (reasonable)
excuse. Please, forgive me.
Evdokimov:Let me introduce our secretary, Vera Galkina.
Vera, could you make coffee for us please.
Vera : Certainly, sir. What coffee do you prefer,
Miss Betty and Lora, black or white?
Betty:Black, please.
Lora :Me too.
Vera : With sugar?
Lora and Betty (together): No, thanks.
Evdokimov:By the way, ladies, as a manager of this firm
I’d like to know, first of all what qualities are
the most important for Englishmen?
Betty:It is difficult to find universal agreement on
the specific personality and professional
characteristics which make a good manager.
Teambuilding usually aims to cover a range of
qualities as one individual cannot have all the
positive management attributes. But I can
enumerate some of the most important for me,
For example: ability to get on well with
colleagues
· technical knowledge
· experience of management
· ability to make people laugh
· willingness to work up to 60
hours a week
· confidence in making decisions
· concern for well-being of every employee
from the top to bottom of an organization
· ability to understand the details
of company activity
· ability to plan and understand corporate
objectives
· knowledge of the world
· highly educated and cultured
individual with wide range of personal
interests
· commitment to making money
· stable health and psychological make-up
· supportive family
· ability to motivate
· ability to delegate and so on…
Volkov: Ireckon, that every good manager knows
about such qualities. But in this case, easier
said , than done.
Vera:Sorry for my interrupting, but here is your
coffee, miss Betty and Lora.
Lora and Betty (together): Thanks a lot.
Evdokimov:By the way, Vera, what happened to you?
It is impolite to be late, isn’t it?
Try to remember what our heroes talked about.
Mr. Evdokimov came together with his foreign colleagues, who had just arrived from London. He introduced them to his staff. Mr. Evdokimov asked English ladies to tell about the work duties of every employee.
