In order to ensure security of passengers, guests and airport personnel Domodedovo Aviation Security employs Russian and foreign state-of-the-art (using the most modern and recently-developed methods, materials or knowledge) technologies.
Security monitoring includes the following components:
| · passenger, baggage and hand luggage screening;
· screening of cargo, mail, aircraft crews and onboard supplies and vehicle inspection;

Every passenger (as well as people who come to meet/see them off) comes to the attention of Domodedovo Aviation Security before entering the passenger terminal. Every zone of the passenger terminal and all screening areas are under 24 hours audio and video surveillance. The passenger terminal is also patrolled by the dog service policemen and service dogs trained to find explosives and drugs.
In security monitoring areas every passenger will be inspected thoroughly. Standard inspection procedure includes the following obligatory actions:
· passenger inspection by walk-through and handheld metal detectors;
· body search;
· shoes and hand luggage screening via x-ray machines;
· inspection of petty things carried in pockets.
Apart from standard procedures, in-depth screening technologies are used in all screening areas for detecting objects and substances prohibited from being taken aboard. Sibscan, a system developed by the Institute of Nuclear Physics is unique in its kind. That device is a fully automated compact system designed for identifying explosives, weapons, guns, glass or plastic capsules on the human body or clothes and is capable of scanning up to 100 people an hour.
Inspection services now employ experts, who use special techniques for interviewing passengers and guests of the airport in order to identify potential law breakers and conduct additional inspection of such people. Such experts work not only in the inspection areas but also in common access areas and at the entrance.
Aviation security procedures are almost fully automated. Check-in desks are equipped with scanners automatically verifying origin of documents. At the same time biometric readers scan a biometric parameter of the passenger and relate it to the boarding pass. Special screening desks are equipped with gates that automatically let the passenger in the special screening zone after information from the boarding pass is read and biometric identification is done.
Thus, the passenger can be clearly identified at all screening stages and biometric identification will guarantee that passengers provide boarding passes issued to their names. More sophisticated passenger and hand luggage checking procedures take up more time and the capacity of the screening areas is not high enough for the increasing passenger flow. That led to introduction of modifications to the passenger terminal reconstruction plans.
