When Iget home from school, what do I do? Instead of pursuing personal interests, like playing computer games or designing program or models, I often have to do a mountain of homework given to us by our teachers to fill our outside-school hours.

Teachers and parents could spend years arguing over whether doing homework develops a pupil's ability to work without assistance, or helps us complete our education and prepare for a post-high school education more successfully.

I believe that for many subjects homework is totally unnecessary, and find that it doesn't do me any good. I think, it's really stupid to copy from a textbook because someone else has already taken the time and effort to write this book and it will remain with me until I leave the school year. So what is the point of duplicating it? It's reinventing the wheel! While busy copying things, it's not easy to take in what you are taking down.

However, I believe, homework is essential in learning languages. New things are learned at school, and then they have to be practiced in writing. I agree that some phrases have to be learned by heart. From these homework exercises, the teacher can observe what has been learned by the pupils and in what areas improvement is needed.

If we could rid of unnecessary homework, we would have more time to take up hobbies and interests which would make us more enthusiastic and interesting.
