1 My family and I
1.1 Read and translate the text:
My name is Marat Ishmuhametov. I am twenty three. I come from Alsheevsky District of the Republic of Bashkortostan. My family lives there.
I am a first-year student of Bashkir State Agrarian University. I study by correspondence. I am at the Agrotechnologies and Agribusiness (Economic, Biotechnologies and Veterinary Medicine, Mechanical, Energy, Land Management and Forestry, Food Technologies, Information Technologies and Management) Department. Now I live in Ufa. I am a mechanic and I work at the plant.
Let me introduce my family to you. My family is large. I have Father, Mother, one sister and two brothers.
My father is an agronomist on a big farm. He is a very busy man. He has much work all the year round. My mother is an economist on the same farm. She is fond of her work.
My elder brother is an engineer. He is twenty-seven. He is married and has two children.
My younger brother is a student of Bashkir State Agrarian University. He is a fifth-year student of the Agrotechnologies and Agribusiness Department. He is going to become an agronomist like our father.
My sister is a schoolgirl. Her name is Sveta. She is fond of mathematics and would like to become an economist.
Also I have my own family. I have a wife and a daughter. My daughter is three and she goes to kindergarten. My wife is a teacher of English at school. I love my family and I think that our family is friendly.

Igor: Hello, everybody. Let me introduce myself to you. My name is Igor.
Marat: Hello, Igor. I am Marat.
Karina: Hello, Igor. I am Karina.
Igor: I’m your warden.
Marat: Nice. Where do you come from?
Igor: I come from Yanaul district and you?
Marat: I’m from Ufa. My family lives here.
Karina: I live in Ufa, too but I come from Karaidel district and my family lives there. What do you mean that you are a warden?
Igor: I will be a link between students and the Department Management. If you have any problems you address me. I will help the group in organizing the curriculum.
Marat: I hope we will all be friends.

Это надо знать!
· В английском языке имена числительные с 13 до 19 образуются прибавлением суффикса –teen (fourteen, seventeen), который при произнесении нужно ударять; числительные 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 образуются прибавлением суффикса –ty (sixty, eighty), который не нужно ударять.
· Имена числительные hundred, thousand, million, billion не используются во множественном числе (470 – four hundred and seventy). Они могут стоять во множественном числе, но в этом случае меняется значение (hundreds – сотни (неопределенное количество), thousands - тысячи).
· При назывании чисел, перед последним ставим союз and(и) (632 – six hundred and thirty two).
· Для цифры ноль 0 в английском языке может использоваться два варианта: zero, oh.
· Тысячи в английском языке отделяются запятой, а десятичные дроби – точкой (3,980 – three thousand nine hundred and eighty; 4.5 – four point five).
· Обратите внимание на различие в написании слов four, fourteen и forty.

· В английском языке для называния дат очень важно знать порядковые имена числительные. Например, 15-е октября по-английски будет the fifteenth of October. Не забывайте использовать артикль и предлог. Есть и другой вариант: October 15 (October the fifteenth).
· Для называния года число, обозначающее год, разделяется на два числа пополам, например: 1990 разделяется на 19 и 91 и произносится nineteen ninety-one.
· Для называния годов, оканчивающихся на 00, например 1900, говорят nineteen hundred.
· Для называния годов, начиная с 2000, число произносится полностью, например: two thousand, 2004 – two thousand and four.
· Слово «год» в английском языке после названия года не говорится, например: 1995 год – nineteen ninety-five.
Our University
2.1 Read and translate the text:
I am a student of Bashkir State Agrarian University. It is in Ufa. It is one of the oldest in the city.
There are several departments at the University. They are the departments of Agrotechnologies and Agribusiness, Food Technologies, Economic, Biotechnologies and Veterinary Medicine, Mechanical, Energy, Land Management and Forestry, Information Technologies and Management.
The University consists of seven buildings. There are many classrooms, laboratories and lecture halls. The classrooms and lecture halls are large and light. Our University has a computer center and many computer classrooms. There is also a good library and several reading rooms. Our students can go in for sports. There are gyms, a swimming pool and a large stadium.
Our University trains highly skilled experts of agriculture. They work at agricultural enterprises, experimental stations, banks and scientific research institutes.
