Birthday Party

I was born on the 14th of March. This year I woke up early in the morning on that day because I was very excited. When I got up my parents wished me to have a great birthday and gave me their presents. That were a DVD disk with my favourite film about animals and a nice warm pullover. I was very happy to get them. After that I helped my mom to make some salads and laid the table. At 4 o’clock I dressed up and did hairstyle. Then it was time to meet the guests. They were my friends who came to congratulate me. On the party we danced, played different games, made jokes and ate all the tasty things that my mom had cooked. We had a lot of fun. After the party we went for a walk.

That was the best birthday in my life.

Spring Holidays

In spring we celebrate several holidays in Ukraine. International Women’s day is one of the most favourite holidays. We celebrate it on the 8th of March. We congratulate our moms and grannies on this day and give them flowers and presents.

The second spring holiday is Easter. The people bring pasky, pysanky (decorated or coloured eggs) and other food to the church to bless them. We also give thanks to God and sing songs in the churches. After that the people exchange Easter greetings and give each other pysanky. Then we have big dinner in our families.

The 3rd great holiday is Victory day. We celebrate it on the 9th of May. On this day we honor our veterans and remember the people that gave their lives for us to live now. We have parades, big concerts and salutes on this day.

Health

There is a proverb ”A sound mind in a sound body”. I think everyone wants to be in good health and have a strong body.

How can we get it? We should eat healthy food: fruit and vegetables, fish, cheese etc. We need to do physical exercises every day. It’s good when children are interested in any kind of sport. The doctors say swimming and running are the best for us. We also need to stay outdoor every day.

Of course, we should take care about our teeth and brush them twice a day. It’s very important for us to drink about 2 liters of water every day. We should not eat a lot of sweets, use sweet drinks, watch TV for several hours per day. We need to know it’s bad for health when the people smoke cigarettes, drink a lot of coffee, don’t have breakfast , eat late at night, go to bed late at night.

My Favourite Lesson

Hello, Larry!

I’d like to tell you some words about our school. I’m a pupil of the 5th form. We have good teachers that love children and give us good knowledge. We study a lot of interesting subjects, such as Maths, Nature, History, English, Russian, Foreign Literature, Ukrainian, Ukrainian Literature, Art, Music, Sport, Ethics, Handwork lessons. I like all the subjects but English is my favourite one. We have it three times a week: on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

During the lessons we learn new words and grammar rules, do exercises , play role games, recite the poems. We also listen to the CD player, sing songs, ask each other questions, read the texts from our textbooks.

All the pupils in our class like English lessons because we want to speak well and communicate with our friends in America and Great Britain. We also want to watch cartoons and films in English, read about our favourite heroes in English books. We like to act in the English plays. We know that good knowledge of English will help us in our future life.

Hello, Barbara!

I’d like to tell you about my trip to Poltava. It’s a beautiful town in central Ukraine. It stands on the both banks of the Vorskla river. Russian tsar Peter the First won the Poltava battle there in 1709. There are a lot of monuments in the town.

One of the main is the monument of Glory in a beautiful park. The 2-nd one is White Rotunda on Sobornaya square. Not far from it there is the Museum of Ivan Kotlyarevsky who was born in Poltava in 1769. He is a famous Ukrainian writer and poet. We know his famous plays “Eneyida” and “Natalka Poltavka”.

We also visited the Poltava Museum of Local Lore. It is one of the oldest museums of Ukraine. It was founded in 1891 by professor Vasyl Dokuchaev. We saw a lot of interesting things there but most of all we liked the mammoth skeleton and the things that Cossacks had.

Then we went to the Museum of the Poltava Battle history. We saw the monument to Peter the 1-st in front of it.

We walked in Petrovsky park in the center of the town too. We saw the wonderful flowers, trees , bushes and the monument to T.G.Shevchenko there. There are Universities, Academies and two theatres in Poltava too.

I liked my trip to Poltava very much.
